Funk Software Shipping Odyssey Server v2.0, Upgrade To 802.1X-Compliant
RADIUS Server
Funk Software has begun shipping its Odyssey
Server v2.0, a major upgrade to its 802.1X-compliant RADIUS server that adds
policy management and enhanced accounting capabilities that provide even
stronger access control and accountability of 802.1X-based wireless and wired
connections to the network.
Odyssey Server is a RADIUS server specially designed to handle WLAN access
control and security. It is a complete WLAN security solution for small
enterprises, and is in addition ideally suited for distribution to branch
offices, autonomous departments and remote sites of larger organizations. In the
latter case, it communicates with a central copy of Funk Software's Steel-Belted
Radius or other compatible RADIUS server for WLAN and 802.1X-wired access policy
management.
With Odyssey Server v2.0, network managers can:
- Set user-based access policies, for enhanced security and access
control.
- Log accounting records locally, or forward them to a central
accounting server, to provide a comprehensive record of WLAN access to the
network.
- Accurately account for users who connect via EAP-TTLS, even if they're
taking advantage of the ability to hide their identity.
- Authenticate users who are connecting via PEAP, the WLAN security
protocol commonly used in Microsoft and Cisco 802.1X solutions.
Odyssey Server supports the WLAN security protocols EAP-TTLS, PEAP, EAP-TLS,
and LEAP, and runs with any 802.1X-compatible WLAN access points. It can
authenticate WLAN users against a Windows authentication database, or
forward authentication requests to Steel-Belted Radius or other compatible
RADIUS server for authentication against non-Windows authentication
databases such as those based on LDAP. It handles connections from any
802.1X access client, including Funk Software's Odyssey Client.
"802.1X and RADIUS are changing the landscape of LAN access security --
putting secure, easily managed wireless and wired LAN access within the
reach of every enterprise," said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software.
"Organizations can now use RADIUS servers to manage all wired and wireless
LAN access, to easily enforce a unified security policy enterprise-wide.
Funk Software's RADIUS expertise and ahead-of-the-curve innovation in the
wireless LAN security space makes Odyssey Server an ideal choice for this
mission-critical use."
