Wi-LAN Launches New Family of Products Under the VIP Brand;
Four New Models Eliminate Truck-Roll Costs with
Self-Installable Network Upgrades
Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN), a global provider of broadband
wireless communications products and technologies, today
announced the launch of four new models of its VIP product
family. Wi-LAN has achieved its goal of lowering the entry
point for enterprises and wireless internet service
providers (WISPs) with these new products, which have data
capacities of either 2, 5 or 11 megabits per second (Mbps)
and are priced very economically. These products allow Wi-LAN's
customers to purchase the affordable products that they need
to start their network rollout and later purchase software
upgrades to meet their increasing throughput requirements.
The software upgrades are activated online without doing
diagnostic visits to a customer premise or repeater station.

Research and Markets: Satellite WiFi Convergence. A
Developing Model for Broadband Access
Converged satellite-WiFi deployments now promise to carve
out several niches of the access market that cannot be
served terrestrially. In a converged satellite-WiFi
deployment, a satellite link is used as a backhaul link to
the Internet. The link is then used to feed a WiFi access
point, which then ultimately serves end users that possess a
WiFi access card. This model pairs two strong distribution
and delivery technologies. The model also enables high-speed
telecommunications everywhere, is a solid option for
bridging the digital divide, and therefore has tremendous
social and economic implications. The model also opens new
vertical and horizontal markets that have been ill-served by
terrestrial access options.
Full Mesh Networks Launches First Wireless Intrusion
Detection and Remote Hacker Shutdown Service
Full Mesh Networks, Inc., a Managed Security Services
Provider specializing in WiFi (802.11) and Bluetooth
security, who recently announced its
dollar-per-user-per-month managed secure WLAN offering,
announced today immediate availability of a fully managed
Wireless Intrusion Detection System, a revolutionary new and
low-cost approach to securing an organization's wireless
airspace from rogue devices and wireless hacking attempts.
Bye-Bye Walkie-Talkies, Hello Wi-Fi Telephones
Walkie-talkies have long been a tough-guy accessory for
security guards and administrators ushering kids into
classrooms and monitoring hallways, but they have not
improved communications between schools and emergency
personnel. This year, schools are finding a better answer
for voice communications: Wi-Fi based telephones.
